Recruiting: 3 Star DB Myles Hartsfield Commits to Nittany Lions

Recruiting news has slowed down a bit recently for James Franklin and the Penn State Nittany Lions, but that changed on Sunday. 3-star athlete prospect Myles Hartsfield announced his decision to play college football for the Nittany Lions, becoming the 16th verbal commitment in Penn State’s 2015 class . He announced his decision on Twitter.

Hartsfield played his high school ball in New Jersey and is ranked by Lions247 as the No. 18 overall recruit in that state. Though he played multiple positions in high school and is listed as a safety, he’ll reportedly play cornerback for the Nittany Lions.

Penn State used defensive coordinator Bob Shoop to recruit the 3-star prospect. Aside from the Nittany Lions, Hartsfield was considering offers from Rutgers, Syracuse, West Virginia, Georgia Tech and others.

Currently, the Nittany Lions have eight verbal commitments on the defensive side of the ball, with three in the secondary.

The commitment of Hartsfield is good news, considering that the Nittany Lions had not received any commitments since Indiana linebacker Josh Barajas flipped from Penn State to Notre Dame on May 30. It’s the first commitment since safety Ayron Monroe said he was headed to Happy Valley on May 10.

According to 247Sports, Penn State has the No. 3 class for 2015.
